The other day I had some Things To Do, and as it turned out, I had a little more time in the middle of the day than I thought I would in between these Important Things To Do, so I used it to take a detour to Bengal “Street.”
I first discovered Bengal while looking for Walter Matthau’s house in “The Laughing Policeman” a while back. With this “bonus time” I decided to use the time to go back to this hidden urban stairway.
When you first find the stairway, it has this door and stone stairway, like something you’d see in a Studio Ghibli anime:
Since I wasn’t in a rush to find Walter Matthau’s house, I spent a little more time at this municipal stairway, which has a really non-urban feel to it:
Conveniently, Bengal ends at a 43 Masonic stop. so you can easily find it:
Since I had a little extra time, and I’d been here already, I took a slightly different route down the hill. There are some amazing houses in San Francisco, like this one here
This part of town (aka “Sherwood Forest”) is so nice, even random space between houses has a spectacular view:
This house is very nice, but it isn’t as bold as some of its neighbors. If anything, it looks more like a mini-corporate campus:
This house, is a bit more bold and looks like a mini resort, or mini Bond villain lair, or Avengers West Coast HQ (those are all Cool Things btw):
The 43 Masonic takes you through a lot of this area, and it’s always so nice to see during the day if you look out the window. Lots of big trees, and lots of quiet in middle of a Big City.
I like how this house fits the hillside. It has a great view too!
Later I would end up on Ocean Avenue, where I saw this Philz Coffee sign (located across the street from Beep’s Burgers) amended with many locally-based stickers.
Afterwards I went on about my day and did all the things I had to do. I was lucky I had this pocket of time to do something like this, something that in the past I might not have done, because if you’re a “busy person” you don’t stop to do such things.
Thanks for reading, and enjoy the rest of your day!
Going forward, I am going to mix posts up a bit - with some being lighter, photo-heavy posts like this one, while others will be more substantive, along with of course posts about San Francico based media. This way I can keep the newsletter going, without it getting too boring (I hope!). Thanks again for reading!
